Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830

Please keep in mind this is a post from 2012 !
Cannot be compared with today expectations.

The picture below shows a good reason to buy a new phone :

This is my good old Nokia after the battery startet to swell . Propably it got wet somewhere. A rubber strap kept it in shape. Anyway , I was considering to buy a new phone already for some weeks. This just needed to happen :)

I do not need an Iphone, HTC  or a Galaxy SII. For my needs a midclass phone with WLAN and an accepatble camera would do the job. So I decided to give the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 a chance.

It has a nice design, has a stable looking case and a good display with Gingerbread 2.3.5 running on it. After 2 month of use the phone is ready to be rated. Take in account this is not a highend phone , but I think in most cases it does its job fine. See my personal rating below. Feel free to share your experience.

WLAN and networks
The HSDPA speed is limited to 7.2 Mpbs. If you can get down with this it is enough for the most things. Receiving data is stable and navigation will not be interrupted.

WLAN can not be considered as a good experience. The connection gets often lost ( I am sitting next to my router ), Vidoes get interrupted regularly after some minutes. VOIP can be catgorized as not usable ( in which I am not sure if SKYPE may takes part in this ).
Rating 6/10
Usability
Performance and application handling is good. ( in view of the 800 Mhz CPU ). I rarely notice a lagging. Android Market ( Google Play now ) offers a wide range of useful apps. Ending a call bugs me a little bit. When I touch the end call button, it will not be recognized some times. I have set the power button to end calls as well. This also will not be always recognized. This has the effect that you stay in the call till the other side hangs up. Not so convenient. Despite this the phone's usability makes a good overall impression.
Rating 8/10
Summary
The phone has a nice and elegant design. It of course does not reach the feeling of an Iphone or a Galaxy SII but has it's own charme. I like the carbon look on the backside. The camera with it's flash LED does an acceptable job and the display comes with a good and clear contrast. A 2GB SD card is included but a headset needs to be bought seperatly. The phone can be synched with your PC via KIES. All important Outlook elements can be synchronised. You can connect via USB 2.0 / 3.0 or WLAN. ( USB is the easier way ).Taking in account this is a Phone for under 200 Euros I can say I am pleased with it.

Charge your device with the minimum of 80% so as to ensure that the battery is calibrated with which you will be able to enjoy the best of the battery life.
It’s always better to backup all your data present in your phone because after the firmware update the data present in the device may get lost or corrupted. To keep it simple, you can make use of below mentioned tips so as to backup / restore the data.

Enable the USB Debugging Mode in your Galaxy ACE S5830 from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. After this, you need to disable / close all the tools like Firewalls, Antivirus suites as these generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.

Thanx the battery advise Corporate Gifts !

The easiest way to perform a firmware update propably is to do it via KIES from your PC.

having a 5 mega pixel camera is not bad since you can capture instant good quality pictures right away. And also the storage capacity is also expandable. Plus the HSPDA makes your wifi browsing a little faster and convenient especially on hot wifi zones.

Indeed, the picture quality is quite satisfying.
It makes nice pics on a 2560 x 1920 resolution. ( of course it can be set to lower resolution )

Thanx for your comment

Samsung Ace has a very generous display. Because of the large screen applications are very easy to use and most application displays are compatible on large screened devices. I recommend Samsung Ace to those looking for a cheap yet high quality Android phone.

Since the release of the iphone i´m totally infected by the iphone virus. but i´ve tested the samsung on cebit germany this year and it´s quiet nice

WebBanshee said...

Cebit Germany :) Great :)

It does not surround you with an Iphone aura but the phone is worth it's price ;) The display and the camera are a real value.

It really is a great phone despite the iphone craze. I can look for a website for sale with just as much ease with the Galaxy Ace as my previous iphone.
